Don't mind a few scrapes as long as it doesn't leak and the sump plug / washer is in good condition. Mine leaks very slighlt from the sump plug. All the best. Martin. CageyH Posted October 23, 2010 Share Posted October 23, 2010 I had the same problem. Took it to an engineering "shop" and they fitted a steel insert which takes a ford sump plug. Stationary M25 Traveller Posted October 23, 2010 Share Posted October 23, 2010 Mine leaks very slighlt from the sump plug.Is that the only fault ? Have you tried a new washer on the bolt ? Check the face of the sump where it sits is clean and not scratched. A new copper washer or Dowty seal (metal washer with inner rubber seal) should sort it. If the thread is stripped/stripping, try PTFE tape on the sump plug, just keep it on the threads, not any loose bits on the end of the bolt that could get into the sump. If beyond that, get it drilled/tapped next size up (to suit a bolt you can get), or get the hole drilled out larger and a bit of round aluminium bar welded in to the hole and drilled/tapped afresh. Wrightpayne Posted October 24, 2010 Share Posted October 24, 2010 Re copper washer - I re-annealed mine by heating on the gas hob to a dull red then let it cool naturally (don't place it on the worktop to cool!!).
