tgracing
Since we're on the subject... My front sidelight and my rear light are refusing to come on (and I think they're blowing the fuse for that circuit too). Any ideas where to look for a short ? The car is a Vauxhall Academy (nee Scolarship, i.e. Classic) 1600. AdvThanksance Davebo C7 CAR
Steve W
Had a similar problem recently. If the instrument lights are also out then check if there is a sort under the dash on the dashboard lights ? I think the dash lights are linked to the drivers side sidelights ? tgracing
Steve, No the dash lights are OK. It looks like a short in the nearside sidelight circuit - but where ? Any ideas how I can check ? What points ? What voltages/currents are normal ? Davebo C7 CAR

Dave H
Take a look in the headlight casing, thats where there are a number of wiring connections, could be something loose/worn in there. Especially round where the wiring enters the headlamp unit, it can rub on the metalwork and short out.
tgracing
Thanks for the tip. My headlight may have been knocked a bit wonky during one of my many sojourns into the scenery this season. I seem to be forever straightening it. I checked the earth out in the headlight which was fine, but I will check the routing uo the stay. Thanks again.
