Screen is 3.9kgs on it's own.

S leather seats are 7.7kgs.

Tillet carb/kev are 2kgs plus mounting you choose.

There's also things like there is no wiper motor bracket welded in.

so more difference in the seats, less in the screen (does that include the stanchions Steve?). I think the GRP tillet seats are a similar weight to the kevlar ones.

The seat runners make a BIG difference. 8kg total for adjustable versus a few hundred grams for the fixed runners. However, an R model will gain weight in the following ways/options (again - the weights are estimates)

HEAVIER

seat runners - 4x2kg

apollo tank - extra 4 litres of oil plus the ali tank itself

dry dump - similar gain i guess

FIA - its 10 kg vs 2kg for a standard

SL cage is only 10 kg, i think the roadsports one is heavier

honey comb tank protection kit 1kg

master switch - the wodge of extra, high current cable 1kg

LIGHTER

the big ali race rad vs the non race item 🤔

carbon dash will be a tad lighter i guess...

the stack dash is probably a bit lighter than the other dials

6 speed box is lifter than the standard one - any guesses anybody 🤔

wiper motor mount as mentioned already

hmm.. maybe i *am* being a bit rude to the runners. but they are stupidly heavy for what they are - 8 kg may be a "tad" excessive as an estimate though. Thats 8kg in total - ie for both seats which is 4 runners which is 8 bits of folded steel.

I'm on GRP tillets and ali mounts now. I used to have new style S-type seats on runners but I've sold them all so can't weigh them.

I'd be interested to see the reult of them on some scales though...

Fred - thanks very much!

OK Dave, you're forgiven!!

I am also getting a bit of a "weight phobia" (as I slurp a glass of vino-collapso worth at least 200 calories) and would like to do a better seat mount.

I have a pal who is a total genius in the metal shop (he runs a business making model aircraft diesel engines) and I was thinking he might be the answer for a nice set of alloy mounts, superlight stylee!

Any ideas on design?

Yes the screen is inc stanchion.

Runners are 1.6 kg a pair.

The GRP seat felt about the same weight as the leather one but could be a bit lighter.

My Tillet seat mounts are my own untra light construction...fixed position.

I have a huge spread sheet with every change or thing I have every had off the car weighed... how sad is that!

New style head lamps weigh in at 3.1kg per pair. That includes the bent metal mouting and

the indicator.

When I picked up a Carb/Kev Tillet and then a GRP I put the GRP one down and lusted after the Carb/Kev one until I cracked and bought it... The weight difference in you hands is noticeable.

Junk the heavy runners of course.

I liked the comment about weight and floating away *wink*. They would blow away pretty easily to I reckon.

sorry - i think you misunderstand me. If you've tried both in your hands and reckon 3 kg then i'm happy to believe it.

I'd *heard* (unsubstantiated rumour etc), that the difference was tiny. but it was at least 3rd hand info so I don't trust it very much. certainly not as much as you telling me you've tried it when deciding which to buy. I always did wonder why they bothered selling the kevlar seats if they were no lighter...

Can we argue about the weight difference of somehing else now *wink*

cucumbers perhaps 🤔 😬

How to Weigh your A**e (The Archimedes weigh)

1) Fill a bowl with water

2) Arrange several bathroom scales around bowl

3) Assume a 'spider' position above bowl balanced on scales

4) Take readings from scales and add them up

5) Dunk A**e in water

6) Take further readings

As water is approximately the same density as A**e, the difference between the two readings is approximately the A**e weight.
