Nick Woods
Regular blatchatters will know all about the burn on my leg I got from touching the exhaust downpipes (before anyone asks, its healing up nicely now ). I've very concerned about my two kids, aged 2 and 5, doing the same thing (and anyone else for that matter) so I've been trying to find someone who could make up some heatshielding to cover the downpipes. It wont look pretty but then burns dont either (pictures available if you want proof....) The problem I have is that just about everyone I've contacted has come up blank, I do have an enquiry still outstanding but based on other the responses so far I'm not optimistic So, does anyome know someone who could make up some heatshielding for me, ideally based in East Anglia ? Failing that has anyone tried exhaust wrap on the outside of the car ?. Will it just move all the heat back to the silencerand make it even hotter ? Or are there any other suggestions ? Nick M
Camcoating the exhaust could be one solution. Mine is notably cooler to touch after the engine has stopped than my old stainless steel one was. Admittedly mine's coated inside and out so that may make more of a difference but it's OK to touch it (not grab it and hold tight I'll grant you) about a minute after the engine has stopped. Has the added advantage of looking quite smart too in satin black, but they do a silver coloured coating too if that's more in keeping with the colourscheme of the car. John Howe
I assume you have motorcycle wings... Have you thought about clam shells, they do keep your legs away from the exhaust and I assume your silencer is not the problem JH
Julian Thompson
My car has exhaust wrap on the manifolds right the way out, and upto the 4 into 2 collector piece. After a run the exhaust can is plenty hot, but the wrap is still touchable (briefly) and wouldn't burn you as badly. I sprayed it with silver heatproof stuff so it looks fine. Ade Ray
I have forgotten his name now (I hang my head in shame) but there was a guy at curborough who specialises in panel beating and re-bodying (?) cars. His car was the one with the aluminium nosed se7en. Again I am sure it would not be cheap but this guy if you could track him down might be the sort of person to fashion a cool looking heat guard????? It's only a thought Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
scooby dooby doo
camcoat is the way. about 100 quid for a manifold inside and out. my manifold was cool enough that after filling up with fuel i could reach through it to fiddle with the starter to get it to work. I would usually burn my hand on the chassis rail next to it though... it does look REALLY cool as well 😬 HOOPY CYCLE WINGS CUCUMBER

PAUL MARRIOTT
Bob Cord has had his pipes coated with a ceramic coating that looks very neat and I believe it comes in different colours, might be worth giving him a shout. Paul M.
