Loverobot
Basic wiring question - am attaching a battery conditioner and notice the previous owner installed a 12v power socket - I am assuming if I connect into that it should charge the battery also? Paul Deslandes
you'll need to make sure that the 12V connector is wired directly to the battery (via a fuse) rather than from the ignition switch as it won't charge with the ignition 'off' in the latter case. Optimates come with a cigar lighter type plug attached specifically so you can do this.
Stationary M25 Traveller
If it is isolated by ignition or master switch, easy enough to reconnect straight across the battery with an in-line fuse
Loverobot
Have checked the socket Basically, if I plug in a 12v vac it will run even if the ignition is off, yet when I hook up a plug without anything attached and test it with the multimeter I get no current signal? I would expect to see the voltage from the battery wouldnt I ? Dont want to fry the battery and not sure which of the wires from the wired 12v plug is +ve.... MADMALC
Yes you would. Some plugs do not fit some sockets very well. Give it a wiggle. You can put your multimeter probes directly into the socket, but take care as ashort will blow the fuse. Worth checking to make sure there is a fuse in the line, just follow the wires back. More than happy to have a look when we get home. S7MAD
