Garth
Loving our new 125 roadsport and apart from a bust speedo sensor all seems well! Have noticed today that there is fibre glass (looks like it anyway?) coming out of the silencer at the rear seam! This does not seem right - has this happened to anyone else? Will talk to CC on Monday, but interested to hear about any similar issues. Thanks in advance Garth atlast
TJG
Hi Garth, that will be the silencing "wool" going walkabout. Do a search on exhausts/packing and you should get lots of info. Don't let it stop you using it, it will only get noisier. 😬 Tony
The Pikey
Thought the seams were welded front and rear on those Jason
Garth
Have searched blatchat an cannot find anything relevant to my new exhaust!-not easily anyway! Did see on one of the postings that the packing is a stainless steel 'wool' - not glass. Will speak to CC today - the front of the silencer is riveted, but the rear looks like some kind of 'seam' Will post CC response atlast
sjmmarsh
It sounds like you have a repackable silencer - did you specify a track-day silencer when you ordered the car? The standard unit is 5" diameter but the repackable ones tend to be larger - 6" or 7". The main benefit is they are quieter thane the standard unit Steve Steve Marsh My Caterham Page
Rattie
Garth, most of these tubular silencers are packed with a stainless wool core wrap, surrounded by mineral wool wraps. The stainless takes the initial thermal sting out of the gasses and help keep the the mineral or glass wool in place while it gets on with the heavy lifting of sound deadening. Merlin's packing product pages give an incling of the typres of materials used and how they're used. They reckon with e-glass that you don't need the stainless. Garth
Still not managed to get hold of CC. Had a look on their website and cannot find the exact silencer - looks closest too the CSR re-packable. Rivets visible on in flow side. The fibre is coming out of the joint at the other end of my sIlencer! Hope to get hold of someone at CC tomorrow? atlast
