Area Representative john m ryan Posted September 9, 2010 Area Representative Share Posted September 9, 2010 How difficult is it to fit a carbon dashboard (dont want to burn my car to the ground)? Anyone any ideas?
jeffi
I was wondering the same thing - it can't be too risky given that all the loom is cable tied to things which are not part of the dash itself. I've also had to replace my speedo and a switch, and these were easy to pop out. All the plugs are of a length that would allow easy identification. I think the hardest part is physically removing and refitting and not the electrical aspects. Hopefully this is the case...
Wil Akroyd
The hardest part is removing the scuttle and knee guards, all the rivets have to be drilled out, I had take the heater out (move to one side) etc. Not hard just a pain. I put new buttons in mine which required some rewiring but apart from that it is straight forward! C7 WEA 1.6K DVA Power
k.russell
investigate taking off the scuttle, if you havnt already, this makes the job very much easier in the long run. i had a blank dash as i wanted a different layout, it was relatively easy to fit, i glued it on after removing the old riveted dash. here Kevin R black(but sometimes orange)-ali HPC here
Grubbster
No need to drill lots of rivets out - take off the bulkhead attached to the scuttle, much easier and gives you more space. Just a couple of things bolted to it that need to be undone (fusebox, interia switch etc). Solent Se7ens Web!
Wil Akroyd
Is the bulk head not riveted tithe scuttle? C7 WEA 1.6K DVA Power
k.russell
as grubster says few bits to unbolt, steering column bolts winscreen wipers etc. then run a long thin blade along the bulkhead to split the silicon seal and the whole scuttle lifts off, can even leave the screen on once you have pulled the terminals for the heated screen if you have one. jonboylaw
As above and photograph everything for reference. Should take about 20 mins to take the scuttle and bulkhead off, make sure you remove the battery positive before attempting if you have an FIA switch fitted. Englishmaninwales
Thanks Stu. Does it require some wood or aluminium backing (eg adapting the old dash) as it seems quite flexible?
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted September 11, 2010 Leadership Team Share Posted September 11, 2010 No, just the CF, but don't overtighten the gauge brackets because you can distort the dash. Stu.
jakeandlizzy
If you do remove the scuttle, replace each rivet with rivnuts and small thumbscrews for easy scuttle removal later for those various electronics projects. Beats crawling in head first to look under the dash!
