DuncanW
I am new to the Caterham world and have recently purchased a R400 that has been used for hillclimbs/sprints. I plan to use it for both road (when weather permits) and the odd hillclimb/trackday etc. The ride is quite hard for the Shropshire B-Roads but propably ideal for track. The front springs are 7A0250 and are set with 7.5cm of thread on the damper. The rear springs are 9C0130 and have 9.5cm of thread. I understand the dampers have adjustable clicks on the bottom, which I have not yet experimented with. My question is, for road use would I be better changing springs and/or dampers or would I feel the difference adjusting the spring platforms? Any help is appreciated. rj
If I'm not mistaken you have 250lb fronts and 130lb rears. The standard setup from Nitron involves 225lb fronts, which is what I have on my car. I have found my car to be a little to stiff on the front end, and will soon order 200lb springs. I seem to recall the standard setup is 8 clicks from soft on the front, 5 on the rear. At present I run 6/5. Mind you that my car is probably a little lighter than the average K-car.

DuncanW
Thanks for that Guys. I presume with clicks, turn all the way in the minus direction then go from there? Cheers Duncan
Peter Carmichael
Clicks on Nitrons should be referenced to the fully clockwise position. There is no guarantee you have the same number of clicks for all your dampers, so working with a fixed number of clicks from fully hard is the only way to get a guaranteed consistent setting. If your dampers have the same number of clicks as each other, obviously it makes no difference.
Pendennis
Your springs are already very soft, I would just adjust the dampning down. Try 3 from soft Want to rent an 18th century Farmhouse in Rural Somerset?
Andy Doughty
I run Nitrons on the road with 200 front and 110 rears and valved to match and they are great for the average B road and in the wet. Too soft for circuit work though. Stops shaking the wifes teeth out.
