scooby dooby doo
there have been two types of mag wheel - the 5 spoke KN ones or the 8 spoke MB ones. Both are split rim. The change over was around the SLR - R500 change over but I think the latter SLRs had the newer wheel type. HOOPY CYCLE WINGS CUCUMBER
V7 SLR
The SLR 5-spoke wheel isn 't magnesium. It's plain ally. Worcs L7 club joint AO.//Membership No. 4379//Azure Blue SLR No. 0077//Se7ens List Tours
scooby dooby doo
really 🤔 why are they so expensive then 🤔 So is the centre billet or case then 🤔 HOOPY CYCLE WINGS CUCUMBER
V7 SLR
Whaddaya mean by "expensive"? I thought they were considerably cheaper than the R500 wheels. Also, beware of using terms like "billet". I've heard a lot of bollards about that recently. Can email you an article I've got which questions phrases like that as meaningless. Dunno how they're made to be honest, but they're not as good as the newer (proper) mag rims thanks mostly to the number of bolts holding the 2 rims together. The SLR rims leaked to begin with until they took the fabulous decision to weld them together (berks). Wonder how much a set of Image wheels would cost to a comparable R500 design and weight. Mike Bees
Image 3-piece alloys are in the order of 250 quid apiece, +/- 50 quid (depending on the state of my memory, how hard you haggle, and the price of chips). More for mag. I guess. Mike
MikeE
Well then doesn't that make the R500 mag wheels reasonable value then at approx £250 a wheel?
scooby dooby doo
V7 - I thought the SLR rims were approx 280-300 quid each.... that makes them expensive. If they weren't that much then they're not so expensive how much are/were they then 🤔 Please send me the article as well The MB wheels are availalbe for under 200 including VAT if you order direct from MB. they'll claim they'll only be a week and will take 6 though. They'll even claim they'll send them that day - and then won't. But it is a lot cheaper than via caterham. (The above statements are from personal experience and from that of a friend over 3 separate orders BTW) HOOPY CYCLE WINGS CUCUMBER
V7 SLR
Naah, I'm reasonably sure Caterham were selling them them for less than 200 squid, inc everything. In fact I've got 130 squid in my memory, but it's an old memory and fading with every sip of my medicine. Article is on it's way to you. NickD
I asked Caterham for the prices a couple of weeks ago. Can't remember exactly but about £195/£205 +vat Front/Rear (£940/set inc.).
