GetCarter
Hi, Here's hoping that Steve Sutcliffe and / or Colin Goodwin frequent this friendly corner of cyberspace. I notice you have both posted times at Bedford Autodrome (rather fast times, I may add!). I have an R500, have the air box fitted, and have fitted the 7" side exit BTB exhaust - and *wrongly* assumed that I would get round the Autodrome without getting black flagged. (I was going to attempt to join you chaps on the HowFast top page) My static test measured 100.5 (ish) @ 6k - so I was allowed out to play - but my drive-by was measuring 89.5+ @ 20 metres (87.5 being the limit). So - a simple question... how did you guys get your cars so quiet? My latest plan is to extend the BTB exhaust (to the longest they do). Thanks for any advice. Gridgway
I think the only way you will do Bedford is with the airbox and the rear exit exhaust. I think I am pretty much the only R500 to have survived there (all the BAD staff said I wouldn;t make it, and were surprised when I did). DaveK
Steve IIRC the car used was caterhams metallic grey demonstrator fitted with a proper side exit exhaust As the two drivers in question are of autocar fame as in steve sutcliffe (tvr tuscan racer as well) and colin goodwin I think it was safe to assume that noise meters were turned the other way when the times were set. peterg
Steve Have you thought about the loooong Raceline silencer? A friend of mine with a Westfield Speedsport has reduced his from 100db to about 94db by fitting this so he could do Goodwood track days which are only 98db static....... GetCarter
Interesting and helpful info guys - ta. I'll exend the BTB first (ordered the bits anyway) and then get the car noise tested on a loud day elsewhere - see if Bedford is a possible. Slipper man
If you are talking about the test that Autocar did against things like the Megabusa, the car was fitted with the rear exit exhaust, which robs 20 bhp or so, but is very quiet. Gridgway
8 bhp on mine, 221 with rear exit, 229 with side exit. Graham
