James Saunders
Car: 2000 SUPERLIGHT 1800 6Spd. Wide track, Flat floored setup. Driving with 70kg passenger to snetterton car was fine until almost there. Then above 60mph it darts all over the road quite severe as though the steering rack is loose. Had to abort the journey and turn home slowly. Goes round roundabouts fine, steers left to right ok. Its just above 60mph it goes all over the place... As a rule it does dart about abit but thats because its flat floored its never been this severe. Quite scary Any suggestions please
murph7355
What sort of tyres do you have at what pressures? How high does it ride? What springs/anti roll bars/dampers do you have? And have you been out on other roads to see if it's easily repeatable? Presumably you've done a bolt check to make sure everything is as it should be (including wheel nuts). Mike Saunders
Thanks Andy Yes all wheel nuts /rack/ are tight. CR500 tyres (pressures not checked recently - ooops!) Bilstien springs. Rear adjustable anti-roll bar. Just to expand - the car is a bit "darty" compared to others I've owned. But today was scarey - bit like a wheel was about to come off. (James ,my son posted the message. It's my car though)
Andrew Dent
How much toe in or out do the front wheels have? 4 wheels on my
Tight fart
check toe in, mine was doing this changed the toe in to almost parrellel back to normal T.F@O.F. www.griptv.com
Mike Saunders
Having only bought the car 4 months ago, I'm not sure of the exact settings. The car was set up for track days by the previous owner. I am no expert or mechanic but the toe in/out is set opposite (I think) to normal to give a pointy front end. Thus you have to catch it on changing or uneven surfaces. Today it needed some catching!!! Checked pressures all round and they are 16-18 psi (near side front was 12psi!) Wheels are 13" minilites all round (with CR500's)
Graham Perry
Also check the rear toe in. Some owners/tuners deliberately add this, but if you have too much the car darts about all over the place and is very scary (been there). Parellel rears are perfectlty adequate for normal use. scooby dooby doo
i had a bent dedion tube which gave me 8 degrees toe in - that made it MORE stable (you could break REALLY deep into a corner on track). how much is needed to make it unstanble 🤔 HOOPY CYCLE WINGS CUCUMBER
Mike Saunders
Looks like the problem could be toe in/out, front/rear then. I'll get it checked and try again. Thanks for your comments, Guys.
spinmaster
Mike, That's my old car. That is definately not right. It won't be the original setup because it actually improved the ride after I got the car setup by Sebah It has always had a sharp turnin and very light steering, very much like a kart, but it never got deflected. It has got uprated springs. Are the roads around you very bumpy? I used to run 18psi all round. No harder. The car was setup to toe in. Sebah would give you more details. I would get it checked out. Feel free to give me a call Paul
spinmaster
Mike, 12psi would have made the car handle terrible. I used to notice if I lost a couple of psi. Probably needs checking every weekend. CR500's loose 1-2 psi a week Cheers
