Nigel Fox
As you all know Class 4 is a road going class and this has to be proved by having tax, insurance and MOT at a cost of around £450 per year. I trailer to events and never use my Caterham on the road, I suspect others do the same. I already have an MSA log book which cost about £30 and lasts indefinitely. The question I would like to raise is, could we, for next season move away from the requirement for tax and insurance? An MOT could still be required to prove class eligibility. I presume an MSA logbook would be required, but I don’t fully understand that aspect. I could go to class 6 but that doesn’t seem to be appropriate, would seem better to save £400 and stay with the very nice class 4 people. robmar
Would you not want to insure your ar 3rd party/fire/theft in case anything happenned to it in the garage or on the trailer 🤔 rob
GrahamV
Hi Nigel You raise a very interesting point. My two penny worth: I believe the class structure of the Lotus 7 Speed Championship is broadly aligned to the classes within the MSA Blue Book – - (10.10.1 and 10.10.2 ) Road going production and specialist cars (our class 1 to 5) - (10.10.3 and 10.10.4) Modified production and specialist cars (our class 6) The Blue Book states (11.2) that ‘Road going production and specialist car’ classes must compete in a road legal condition (not road worthy but road legal which sadly means tax and insurance). So I think the real question is do we align the Speed Championship with the MSA Blue Book – if ‘yes’ then we have to have tax and insurance for road going classes. If ‘no’ then this may well cause other organisational headaches …. Does this make sense? Graham
Simon.Rogers1
I've just come back from collecting the new 7 Tips "busa" Chassis so have not been able to get the Blue book out yet but I believe that Graham has answered the question accurately. We do have to align the classes with the MSA in order to get them approved. I'll have another look but I doubt it will be prior to the weekend. Nigel Fox
Cheers Simon, I was hoping to stimulate a debate to see if there are other options. I would have thought that all cars in our championship comply with the requirements of modified production and specialist cars already, so could the whole championship be run under that umbrella, along with the requirements of the existing classes. That is (I think) if you haven't got tax and insurance you need an MSA log book. As I said before I don't fully understand all the issues. Simon.Rogers1
But if you run Mod Prod you need full cage so that excludes that option.
