DW
Hi Read various threads and thought that I'd have an LRS110, but went to local motor factors who ordered one, and it's not the same. Picture of starter motor Engine is Xflow1700, gearbox is 5 speed. Any ideas? David 1700XF: click here
Revin Kevin
David, Have a look at the following post, search for, (Tech Talk - Lucas inertia starter on tall block Twin Cam. posted some time in 2007), even though this is for a tall block twin cam it is relevant to all 711m and AX block cross flows. as for which starter you want it is dependant on your flywheel ring gear and starter pinion. it is all explained in the post. DW
Thanks Chris - I'd read this post before - it says: 1. there are at least 2 common types of X Flow / Twin Cam flywheels, a small and a large diameter; 2. for each type there is an inertia ring gear and a pre engaged ring gear; 3. the inertia ring gear has always 110 teeth 4. the pre engaged ring gear can have 132 of 135 teeth; 5. the Lucas inertia starter can have a 9 or 10 teeth pinion but the outer diameter is always 29 mm; 6. the part number of the Lucas inertia starter should be LRS101; 7. the Lucas pre engaged starter has always a 10 teeth pinion with an outer diameter of 25.5 mm or 26 mm (?); 8. the part number of the Lucas pre engaged starter should be LRS110 or NSB101 (old number ?). It is sure that there is a Lucas pre engaged starter for SOHC "Pinto" applications, f.i. Escort MkII, Sierra, ... This type of starter has 10 teeth and also an outer pinion diameter of 25.5 mm, but we are not sure that this starter is the same as the Lucas pre engaged X Flow starter. The dimensions of the mounting flange can be different resulting in a different position to the ring gear. By starter has 10 teeth pinion, and the outer diameter of the pinion is c26mm. I therefore deduced that mine is a Lucas pre-engaged starter with 10 teeth and thus the LRS110. The motor factor tells me it isn't, but he doesn't know what it is! Graham Perry
I was told by a local company that refurbish lots of Lucas starters that the original one on my 5 speed supersprint was actually a hybrid of two standard Lucas starters. They couldn't do me an exchange version because of this when mine went wrong, and had to refurbish my original one instead.
