Ticker Box

Ever since having the car, the indicator ticker box has been giving grief.

Often the indicators fail to work and waggling the ticker box in it's socket makes it buzz and then start to work, but with the vibrations going through the car, it soon fails - plugging the ticker box straight into the socket and the indicators don't work, it has to be sort of wedged in at an angle.

Before I order one, is it just a case of get a new one, or is there something that I can do either to the existing one or the socket to get a better fit. Have tried bending various things but with no luck.

Anyone else out there had a similar experience? It's a bit annoying when it fails when driving, a couple of waggles and the damn thing falls out all together ☹️

Thanks

Suspect the problem is with the fuse 'board' spade terminals. They are built into the black receptacle that takes all the fuses. If a relay (ticker box!) has been pushed in at an angle when being refitted at some time it can open up the teminals to the extent where when you fit it correctly the relay box teminals actually 'miss' the receiving spade receptacle.

Answer:- disconnect the battery. Next bit is a bit of a contortion act but can be done!!!

Remove the offending relay and look into its holding position at the brass terminals on the fuse board while using a torch. Use a very small flat blade screw driver (modellers/jewellers type) to close up the teminals by 'poking' around into the exposed holes. Not as bad as it sounds.....really. It becomes obvious when seen in the torch light. You can remove the board if required by four screws from the bulkhead (reached in engine bay.scuttle area) but spacers fall out & can be a bit fiddly to refit.

Having 'tightened' up the teminals, re fit the relay & re connect the battery. This should effect the required 'repair'.

Good luck *thumbup*
