Nick Speed
Mounting, leaning on the rear or riding the car (or was it the girlfriend?) slowly, produces a grating squeak, which seems to come from the area of the nearside rear spring. Any thoughts on what I should be lubricating? Cheers Nick

scooby dooby doo
can't think of anything obvious. check if anything's loose... most of the things i can think if that might squeak would seize pretty immediately and you'd know about it.... rear wheel bearing went on mine once are you dedion or live axle 🤔 HOOPY CYCLE WINGS CUCUMBER
Area Representative Nick Chan Posted August 27, 2002 Area Representative Share Posted August 27, 2002 On my Classic, the springs on the suspension rubbed slightly on the dampers and created a distinctive twang (technical term!) until they were greased (damper and inside of spring) slightly to reduce the friction. Have a look in the techforum, IIRC this has been covered with quite a few posts. HTH Nick Yellow HPC - A 2.0 VX - 😬

Graham Sewell
One of my springs just caught on the body work slightly. Rotating the spring by 180 degrees solved that one! Low tech luddite - xflow and proud!
Nigel Riches
Here's something else to take a look at, where the top of the shock absorber passes through the chassis there are some rubber doughnut things, one above and one below the frame of the car, held in place by cup shaped washers, if the nuts on the top should start to loosen, or the lower bungy thing gets compressed, the shock absorber rod can rub on the chassis, causing an awful noise, and being tricky to isolate, I know I spent many happy hours trying to find it. Regards Nigel.
Nick Green
Another thing to try if all the above fail you, is an extra, slim shim in the front A-frame mounts. That fixed an annoying squeak on my car.
Nick Speed
Thanks all. 180 degree twist of the spring, a spot of grease on the top and bottom platforms (?) and checking the rubber donuts where the shocker passes through its mounting seems to have done the job! The girlfriend is very grateful too - and so she should be! Thanks again Nick

scooby dooby doo
when the server is busy it posts your message and then gives an error message. so just hit post reply once then check its arrived ok in another window. the extra load on the server is chiefly due to the number of views column I think HOOPY CYCLE WINGS CUCUMBER
Jam Mad
as a further addition to this thread, i traced my squeaky rear end to the front a-frame bushes on my ital xflow. they need changing with the help of a hydraulic press, but most garages should be able to help. cheers, j
