Dutchy
I've just been on a trackday, after about 4 sessions when I went into reverse and gently lifted the clutch there was masses of judder and noise from the diff and the whole car, this is also the same going forward just as I lift the clutch. It seems the same whether turning or straight line, once moving the car seems fine. Once this happened I loaded the car and came home. Any ideas what it could be, I'm wondering if the clutch is on its last legs and causing the judder through the whole transmission. Its a SLR with AP LSD 3.62. 6speedmanual
Does it judder if you slip the clutch slightly between gear changes too? Also, take a look round engine, gearbox, diff, prop, etc fixings to make sure nothing worked loose. Dutchy
It only seems to happen when initially pulling away or reversing, I've not noticed it between gears. I only drove it a few hundred yards after it first happened, just to see if it went away. Steve
Bricol
Contaminated clutch - oil leak or similar. Or failure of the springs in the clutch plate. Or sudden failure of technique - as a new, young employee of my last place of work, I went with the technical manager on a long trip south in an Escort van - he drove - and every time he set off - massive clutch judder. We swopped after several hours, I set off normally . . no judder . . . By careful application, I was able to make it judder so as to remain on good terms for the rest of the journey 😬 Bri
Dutchy
Looks as though the clutch has gone after talking to a few companies. Has anyone had any experience with Superclutch? They have a " 7 1/4 Track Clutch" which is twin plates sintered and suitable for mainly track and ok for a little road. I've got to replace the flywheel as well I believe with this clutch for a lightweight one? Steve
Mark Durrant
Steve Not sure if it is still available but Mark Gibson was selling a Superclutch flywheel and clutch Mark D

Support Team Shaun_E Posted June 16, 2010 Support Team Share Posted June 16, 2010 Check the clutch cable first - it may have stretched and be at the point of breaking. I had the same symptoms at Aintree last year and the cable snapped shortly afterwards. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
