scooby dooby doo
hmm... i may be interested - i have a new tank and an old gauge and the combination doesn't seem to work. it may be something else but i suspect they may have different ranges.... I'll get back to you. HOOPY CYCLE WINGS CUCUMBER
andymac
What are the resistances at full and empty?

felix.klauser
According to Mr Fluke the VDO sender read 5 ohms at empty and 177 at full. The Caterham sender reads 262 at empty and 20 at full. Rather different senders!
scooby dooby doo
hmm... neither of which explain why my tank reads 1/8th when full and 1/16th when empty.... HOOPY CYCLE WINGS CUCUMBER
felix.klauser
Apologies for my lack of clairvoyance; I must work on that... It's not uncommon for the sender to catch on a baffle. Take the sender out and check its resistance at full and empty to see it that looks OK. And then try either changing its rotational orientation with respect to the tank and/or slightly bending the float wire to ensure free travel. andymac
Ah, wrong way up for me. Thanks for checking anyway.
scooby dooby doo
i've not started investigating yet. but i suspect that a new type of sender and a 96 gauge may be a problem. but like you say - i need to wiggle it with mr fluke plugged in the other end.. felix.klauser
I'm virtually certain you need to match VDO gauge to VDO sender and Caterham labelled-gauge to new sender. Given the reversed resistance profiles between the two senders I can't imagine how you could get a mis-matched pair to work.
CHRIS CLARK
Felix. I agree!
