What is this Clip

Found in the bottom of the Bell housing.

 

Could it be linked to my oil leak from the same area?

This is a clip that goes inside the rubber boot over the clutch cable, where it enters the bellhousing. It's very unlikely to be associated with the leak.

 

Leaks from the bellhousing are usually rear main crank seal or occasionally from the front of the gearbox. Is the oil smelly? If not, then it's probably from the engine..

 

Alternatively, it could be from the engine or sump and then blown backwards...

I took my clip out...............to prevent it falling into the bell-housing!

I don't recall seeing it when I replaced the engine so I can only assume that I probably dislodged it when I removed the clutch cable boot to refit the clutch cable.

 

How does it fit into the clutch cable boot?

Sits inside it to keep the rubber off the clutch fork .... Like a hoodstick.

Clip is normally held in rubber boot with a couple of staples and easily falls out.

LADS TOP TIP:_

Fasten the clip to the boot with a couple of small cable ties.

Oh, I wish I'd thought of that . It's a real struggle getting the 4 speed boot back on with the clip, but it's essential to make it fit the 'ole. Excellent tip
