In preparation for Goodwood

 

I have just had my R300 SV (roller barrels) noise tested at Castle Combe (again)

 

Last time it measured 101.8 dB(A) @ 4500 rpm (thus no good for a track day!)

This time 102.2 dB(A) @ 4500 rpm so still not OK

 

However, the MSA guy suggested running at 5000 rpm (which is closeser to 3/4 max revs) and hey presto a drop to 97dB(A). (apparently something to do with K series engine efficiency).

 

So; with 105dB(A) @ 3/4 max rpm at Goodwood consider running @ around 5000rpm with a K engined car it might help!

I'll try and repeat that experiment for the 3 cars local to me. I doubt it will be prior to Goodwood though.

 

Sounds like you need some more expensive packing Or not as the case may be 😳

 

I know that there is no way you will get any more fibre in there.

I have seen the same thing on a crossflow. Did a test at 4500 rpm it showed 108db, then tried 6000 rpm and it showed 104db.

Make sure the car has completely warmed up before taking the test and keep your foot on the clutch especially if you have a 6 speed box.
