Brakes - or lack of

Not as bad as it appears but still a problem.

 

I have Alcon 4pot(JW) with EBC Greenstuff pads.

Caterham race master cylinder.

 

The problem is the brakes lack feeling - in that they slow you down - but it just dosnt feel as if its going to stop.

 

2 people have driven the car and both said that they lack confidence ?

 

I feel that with this set up the car should stand on its nose !!! when the peddle is pushed.

 

 

Any ideas ??

The race master cylinder is to blame. It is such a large bore that you need to match it with a high friction pad or bigger diameter brake discs. A return to a standard M/c will give more pedal travel and more feel. A change to something like Pagid RS4-2 pads will also work well.

I have found that EBC green stuff don't inspire confidence and I thought that JW had the piston sizes in the Alcon calipers optimised for the standard m/cylinder as one of his selling points for them is " you don't need a new m/cylinder". I suggest you raise some money to purchase some decent pads, mintex or Pagid, by selling your racing m/cylinder.

Where is the best place to get these pads i.e. price wise.

 

I have an SLR with the new type 4 pots and uprated master / big bore.

 

I have to stand on the pedal to stop.

Anybody tried Hawk pads? How about Performance Friction? I'd appreciate your experience with these brands if anyone has used them.
