Andy Lef
POBC Anyone use these LED tails and rear indicators, if so are they any good?
jeremybu
Yes, I think they are worth fitting. The wiring's a bit short so I connected at the light end which was a bit of a fiddle and I probably should have done it differently. I think they're waterproof and definitely much brighter. Area Representative Paul Richards Posted March 25, 2010 Area Representative Share Posted March 25, 2010 I haven't fitted these, but I must confess I'm tempted. They look similar to original i.e. rectangular as opposed to the round lights I've seen used. I'll probably fit at some time when funds allow. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. jchasey
Yes I use them, although have mounted on the back of the car (rather than on the wings) where the reversing & fog light are normally. (Don't need reverse for MOT and my fog light is centrally mounted for race regs) Only issue is they are a bugger to get out of the black surround once in place. Kevsta
Shame about the fake carbon effect. Think I'd blow over with satin black paint.
jchasey
The carbon-effect is only if you mount them on the wings, if you mount them on the rear body i.e. flat, then they come with black plastic holders. John
Irrelevant
Look a bit chavvy to me. And look a bit of a pig to fit to a curved wing. Personally, I like the look of the standard lights, even if they did originally come from a caravan. And afterall, they do their job.

Andy Lef
Being seen is what has always worried me. How many of us have been or nearly been rear ended because the rear lights are too weak. May have to go and get a pair.

Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted March 26, 2010 Area Representative Share Posted March 26, 2010 Hi Gerhard Thanks for the link. Such a shame that there is yet another forum for just a section of the Caterham/Seven community. We are weaker when not united. It would be far better to encourage everyone to be here (including those of us with 21s). Possibly with particular sections, but this is a classic example of where one person's trial is useful to everyone. Democratic dissent is not disloyalty, it is a positive civic duty. jonboylaw
Why not try and mount the innards from these in the standard housing ? Can someone measure the circuit board size ? geko
Hi Jonathan, the innards of the LEDs are totally moulded just 4 leads come out (earth, indicator, brake, rearlight) I think it is not possible to remove the innards without damage. k.russell
i fitted the round lights from SVC here , needed a bit of though but they went on, still in the fake carbon though 😳 was going to paint but not got around to it. had to fit regulators for the led indicators, not sure if these are contained within the unit you are looking at Andy. Andy Lef
Kevin for the pics - nice looking car. I'm not sure about the carbon effect either but since I'm not looking at it and the lights WILL be brighter I can probably live with it. Re the indicator issue, SVC sell LED resistors that might do the job - quite pricey and I'm sure Maplins do the job as well! Geko above on the CSR forum link, also suggested that to offset this I replace the mechanical flasher relay to an electronic one - are there two types? geko
Hi, the original flasher relay in my CSR was mechanical type: WEHRLE art no.: 54 201 101 I changed it to this one: WEHRLE art no.: 53 201 101 (electronical max. 170W at 12V). This work fine if you do not change ALL indicator bulbs into LED typ. It need a minimum load of about 5W per side to work properly. Andy Lef
Gerhard Many thanks for your help. *thumbup* Will order all the bits tomorrow and then see how the 'carbon effect' looks on BRG before I make a decision about painting over it. geko
Hi, I checked the diagram again and find that earth (E) and + batt. (B) are different. You can fix it by changing the wires in the relay socket, sorry about that. 😳 Here is the diagram you need: (page 34 and 39) pdf link 49 = batt., 49a= (LED)lights, 31 = earth Regards Gerhard Caterham CSR 200 MAZDA MX-5, Mk2, 1840ccm Edited by - geko on 2 Apr 2010 16:40:
Eugene
I used the SVC round lights HERE. Have since replaced the surrounds with the newer versions the other way up! Look a lot better. They are very bright, and with such a dark 7 that's important to me! Small Boy - with Loud Toy!
