Roger Ford
My Momo QR steering wheel won't come off. The release mechanism pulls in in the normal manner, but the wheel doesn't then pull off. Anyone experienced this? I'm reluctant to apply too much force, a steering wheel which won't come off is a mild annoyance, whereas a steering wheel which won't go on would be a bit of disaster a few days before the first race! tbird
wonder if one ore more of ball bearings just stuck down. maybe a sharp tap with a piece of wood while release collar pulled may help, , just had a look at mine, ball bearings not sprung in either direction, and are close to open end of fitment IYSWIM mayme a squirt of WD40 up into collar would help, Tim
Tony Whitley
Mine did that after I hadn't removed it for ages. Turned out to be the tiniest amount of rust on the splines but it took a surprising amount of force (my #2 hammer ) to get it to release.
Roger Ford
I tried the wood/hammer and WD40, to no avail. Think I'll leave it and get McMillan to have a look at the weekend. As I say, last thing I want is to be unable to get the thing back on! But thanks for the suggestions.
tbird
best of luck, hope its not one of those jobs where there is much sucking of teeth and then the announcement that "once they have the rack out it will be easy peasy from there on in" 😬
The Pikey
had a problem like this on mine once.. It turned out to be the screws that held the wheel to the boss were to long and stopped the collar pulling forward enough to release it. jason
neilg
Roger, i had exactly the same a month ago. I got REALLY physical with it and gave it a bit of a tap with rubber hammer but had to give it an almighty pull and push for it to come off. I think it was one of the ball bearings got jammed. A good old coating of WD40 sorted it out.
sjmmarsh
An alternative to a hammer is to use a ratchet strap round the wheel and the roll bar. Also stops the wheel flying off and hitting you in the face as you pull it towards yourself... Steve
