AMMO
Anyone know what an aluminium radiator weighs? Either a Caterham or Pace. Do Caterham do a skinny and thick one? I have a 3 core steel rad which weighs 3 kilos empty or 6 kilos full of coolant. Trying to see if I can justify the cost just to save some weight. Fred
AMMO Caterham do a standard and a high capacity one if you are going to do track work go for the high volume one at a cost of £300+ to just save weight i don't see the point . fred
AMMO
Fred Saving weight is always nice if possible. I didn't know the Caterham rad was £300.00 though! Still would like to know the weight of the competition type ali rad if anyone knows. Thanks AMMO
Trevor Phillips
You can order direct from Pace. I had a special made up to my own specification (big unit for a Cosworth) two years ago at £250 including shipping. They were incredibly helpful. Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted August 18, 2002 Leadership Team Share Posted August 18, 2002 Is it Pace that make the high capacity Caterham rad rather than Covrad? Any contact details for Pace? Allen Payne
I've an old'ish high capacity Caterham rad and it has Pace stamped on the top of it. Regards Allen
stevefoster
An ali rad purchaser I know was advised that they need replacing or re-coring every 3 years or so as they fur up. What's been the experience out there on this? Steve My racing pics, 7 DIY, race prep. AMMO
Thanks for the info. My original weights were from memory. Have checked my notes and find that the dry weight of my rad was 6 kilos approx. It takes 3 litres of coolant. I'm going past PACE on Friday and have arranged to pop in to have a look and a chat. 2.5 kilos of weight saving is hard to resist. AMMO
ECR
Don't forget to take account of the volume of water in both types !
Chelspeed
Finally got round to weighing my two ally rads: Road ally rad 2.9kg, race alloy rad 3.8kg. Road rad takes 1.65l of water, race rad takes 2.15l of water. I reckon that makes a weight saving of 1.4kg with the road rad over the race rad. AMMO
Chelspeed Thanks for that. I found an MBE laptop lead you lent me. Will you be at Curborough? If so I'll bring it along. AMMO
