Andy Green
Hi, I have read the 2010 regs. I have not applied for by MSA Licence yet. I have a 2009 Duratec R400 SV. What will I NEED to pass scrutineering? I have a track day roll bar. Do I need a cut off switch? Double spring on acce;erator? Fire extinguisher? Do you need harnesses as I decided on just normal seat belts? Am I correct in thinking I need a helmet, 2 layer suit and gloves, but not shoes. Understand I will need to pass the noise test. Sorry but I am a total novice !
Martin S.
Hi Andy, Car: FIA bar - tall enough so in a roll the bar takes the hit and not your (helmeted) head. Oil catch tank(s) on any open engine breathers you may have Timing strut 4 point (minimum) harness Yellow tape on neg battery lead Double throttle return springs acting directly on the throttles, ie not via a load of linkages Cut off switch not required Fire extinguisher not required Arrow label to show where to cut the ignition You: Snell approved helmet FIA approved fireproof overalls Fireproof shoes not required (not sure about the gloves but dont think they are a requirement???) I'm bound to have forgotten something someone will be along soon to add/correct what I've said Part time Class 4 Zetec

CaterBram
Gloves were a recommended requirement last year and a mandatory one this year. There is an intro to sprinting event on the 17th April @ Curborough, I don't know if there are any places left but if you contact Sam Pearce i'm sure she would be able to tell you if there is or not. It's my first year as well and i've booked on, also already signed up for Goodwood, Llys y Fran and Mira. 😬 Q469 WET, 1990 Caterham 1690 Crossflow Long Cockpit in Ali except for the red bits. Area Representative Richard Price Posted March 11, 2010 Area Representative Share Posted March 11, 2010 Andy, A couple of points. If is a standand Duratec R400, then you won't need any additional throttle return springs. The blue book reads:- 5.4.2. Be equipped with a positive method of throttle closing by means of external spring/springs so that in the event of failure of any part of the throttle linkage the throttle(s) are sprung closed. Just to clarify the racewear details a little. Overalls must comply with:- BS6249 part 1 Index A or B (but not part C). or BSEN533 or EN533:1995 Index 3 or FIA 8856-2000 or FIA 1986 Standard. However, there is a note in the blue book that states :- Overalls homologated to either FIA 8856-2000 or FIA 1986 standard will be mandatory from 01.01.2012, when the BS6249, BSEN533 and pr EN533 will no longer be acceptable. For Helmets, the blue book reads:- (a) INTERNATIONAL EVENTS & ALL MSA EVENTS. FIA 8860-2004. SNELL SA2005. SNELL SA2000*. SFI Foundation 31.1A, 31.2A. BS 6658 Type A/FR. In addition the following are acceptable for: *May be withdrawn with effect from 01/01/11.

RichardO
Overalls: I wouldn't buy FIA1986 overalls new. They were OK for racing until end of last year - and then the rules changed. Would expect to see that filter down to sprinting over the next few years. On the other hand, you'll be able to pick up a cheap second hand set from a racer who's been forced to upgrade. ebay time... There's no difference between 1986 and 2000 in terms of fireproofness (is that a word?); the 2000 ones just have strengthened shoulder straps.
