Thermal efficiency of Ceramic coatings

I've been looking at ways of reducing under-bonnet temperatures of my 2L Zetec 7 but don't really want to resort to, mummified looking, wrapped exhaust primaries. I don't doubt it does the job but IMHO it doesn't look very neat!

So, what are the insulating properties of ceramic coating the primaries and is it best to have them coated inside, outside or both?

Also does anybody have any experience of the specialists who carry out this work?

my exhaust was done by camcoat (google for camcoat finds them). the result is that after filling up with fuel the manifold is cool enough that i can reach past it to play with the dodgy connection on the starter. Although I still burn myself on the chassis rail!

Mine was done inside and out.

mine's only done 2 weeks / 2000 miles. But miraz has had his for a bit over year and 10,000 miles. no sign of chipping at all on either of them.

I choose black (was one of the main reasons for getting it actually) so i don't have to polish it. Also I hate chrome bits on a car so mine is entirely red (belts, airbox, paint, plug cover) and black (aeroscreen, mirrors, headlights, enginebay, exhaust, seats, wings, rivets holding the filler neck (i am sad aren't I 🤔)) .

i need to get the bonnet catches done in black though...

yup. I actually had the whole system done inside and out including the silencer. i think it came to 160 with vat and postage. but a friend got a few done so i'm not *that* sure.

a few things to note

- if its not a brand new exhaust I think you'll need a specialist cleaning company to get rid of all the crud inside. Ask camcoat about this.

- Since we got a few done together we may have got a discount

- It looks //ell //icked! 😬 have a look here. its the only pic i could find and doesn't show much though...

Seconded. Or thirded, whatever it is now.

Got my manifold done inside and out as well as the end caps for my carbon silencer and it came to just over £200 all in. As has been said, it keeps the exhaust much cooler and brushing your leg against it soon after the engine has been run is a far less painful experience than it was before.

You can only get the coating done outside once the exhaust has been used - they'll only coat new manifolds inside and out - but even that should make a difference.
