Xflow Oil Filler Cap

I can't seem to remove the oil filler cap on my xflow when the engine is hot - the cap seems to be in two parts, with a plastic 'top' that just comes off when the engine is hot leaving the rest of the cap in place (it seems to be filled with wire wool?). When cold, the cap is just a loose push fit, so I assume it is designed to expand, but it means that although I can check the oil level on a track day, I can't do anything about it if it gets a bit on the low side, unless I park in some shade and leave the car for several hours, missing sessions...

Is there an alternative I can get to this cap, or do they 'all do that, Sir'?

Your cap is bust.

The filler cap should come out as a whole, ie, top bit with the wire, filter and the cyl bottom half.

Mine comes out hot or cold fine. I expect you can either get one from:

Ford, Scrap yard (mk II escort) or I think Burtons do a trick ali one
