Blue vs gold DS pump

Hello

 

Question for the POBC.

 

What is the difference, apart from the colour, between a blue and gold oil pump for a dry sump from CC?

 

Which part are interchangeable?

As I understand it, the gold pump has a higher capacity than the purple one.

I'm not sure, but I don't think that they are interchangable.

Having said that I've run two car for road and track use with purple pump and not encountered any problems. IIRC The change was made by CC after some SLR racers (on slicks) suffer oil starvation problems.

As Steve said there were some problems with the blue pump

Gold is now the standard (has been for last 3 years I think)

I am told they are interchangable

Gold pump has been around a lot more than 3 years. Probably as far back as 2000 at a guess. And unless you're colour blind it's purple not blue 😬 😬

Is the polley interchangeable? the coolant hose is a bit too close for confort.

The purple pump is a vane pump the gold pump is a gear pump. The gold pump was introduced as it is more efficient at high revs, in say the K R500 application or R400 race cars. No it is not advisable to run the same pulley as the purple pump runs a big 100mm dia pulley to gear down the shaft speed of the pump to reduce cavitation, the gold pump runs a smaller pulley.
