Cam timing queries

Clawhammer

Recommended Posts

Replacing cam belt and have some questions. Car is a 2002 1.8 superlight. Engine running Supersport cams. Oily recommended LBTDC figures of, Inlet .080" Exhaust .060"

Have checked existing lift before removing belt, Inlet is .063" Exhaust is .045".

Would this have made a noticable difference to my performance?

I will adjust when new belt is fitted.

Numbers marked on camshaft are LGC206240N. Is this a Supersport cam?

I need to remove the crankshaft pulley to get the lower cambelt cover off.

What is the best way to lock the engine to release the nut?

Is the nut standard thread ie, undo anti-clockwise?

I believe the torque setting for this nut is 205n!!, Is this correct?

Lastly for now,My car has the automatic belt tensioner. I can only find info for refitting the manual version. can anyone shed some light on fitting and adjusting as I would hate to do this and not have the tension set properly.

Lock the crank by wedgine a stout screwdriver in the ring gear in the opening between the bottom of the starter and the sump line.

The bolt is a conventional thread.

205NM is correct.

To tension the belt, put a suitable sized allen key in the hole in the top quadrant and turn until the slot on the backplate lines up with the tang on the holding wire, then nip up the clamp bolt.

Adding 15-20 thou to the lift at TDC will make a difference, it equates to around 4-5 degrees of lobe angle.

There is a very noticible difference with 80/60 thou lift at tdc if as oily says you had anything upwards of 15 thou less than this.

Link to cam tensioner question.

It took some force to remove my crank pully bolt as well, a long extension bar and several attempts after convincing myself that I was not about to shear it.

Hope this helps.

I disagree with all the replies above. You'll be much quicker with the original cam timing.

Those cams are crap

I'd fit a pair of standard roadsport cams if I were you *smile*
