Engine cutting out

I had a bizarre problem this weekend at a track day and would be keen to know if anyone has had the same problem and what the cause might be.

 

The symptoms are that under (fairly) heavy braking the engine misfires. If I keep my foot on the accelerator the engine will keep running but continue to misfire. If I take my foot off the accelerator it will just stop. Turning the ignition off and on again cures the problem (even while the car is still rolling) and everything is fine until the next time it happens.

 

Have checked the oil levels/pressure and petrol filter and they look fine and there are no obvious loose wires.

 

Car is a 1.6 K-series, about 18 months old with around 4K miles on it and less than 1k since the last service.

 

Any ideas, 'cos I'm stumped!
