Car Sticking ?

Recommended Posts

I have kept my car garaged for the past couple of months (handbrake off), and went to push it forwards over the weekend and it seemed stuck and then suddenly gave way with a noise coming from all four wheels.

Is this likely to be because the pads and discs had stuck together?

Does this do any damage to the car?

Is there anything I can do to stop it happening?

Probably a simple question, but any answers would be appreciated!

a) yes

b) probably not

c) probably not ...... other than don't drive it if mildly moist, but in the real world, that's not really practical. Our tin tops can do it if left a day or two with the handbrake on after driving in the wet. Releases with quite a bang ! Tend not to use the handbrake on our almost level drive these days !

*arrowup* As he said

OR

Could simply be the tyres sticking to the floor especially if you have a painted floor.

I know someone will pipe up with "how much, blah, daylight robbery yawn....", but I use one of these so that a) I don't have to think about where to stop the car and b) I can leave the brake off and not have the car roll to somewhere I don't want it to be...

Park Smart Mat

I can also recommend Motorgeek, very good chaps to deal with for any cleaning/polishing stuff.

I always try and take my car for a quick run after washing. It gets rid of any excess moisture on the bodywork and also gets the brakes dried (I drive for a short way with the foot brake lightly on to warm things up). I never have any problem with brakes sticking on when they have been parked up sometimes for several months.

I push my cars into the garage as well as they are so light to manoeuvre.
