Fitting new wheels

Recommended Posts

Got some new wheels for the 'tin-top' . Less of the wheel nut seems to stick through on these new wheels compared to old. There is about half of the wheel nut going into the hub .. is this safe or is there a general rule about how much of the wheel nut should screw into the hub ? i.e 1/2, 3/4 should be sticking through the back of the wheel ???

Thanks

james make sure the tapered end on your old studs is the same as your new wheels

if you are getting about 5 or 6 full thread turns in to the hub you will be ok

just check and tighten for the first few days

Fred,

Cheers mate .. I counted about 8 threads were sticking through the back of the wheel going into the hub, 13 on the old wheels.

I am using the same studs on the new wheels that attached originals on. Only difference I noticed was the holes on the new wheels where the studs go through is bigger than original but once tightened the tapered end of the studs bring the wheel central on the hub !
