Trickle charger

Usual problems with battery with cold weather - saw ad in flyer for Maplin Electronics solar powered trickle charger with fag lighter attachment, £12.99. Is this worth a try?

 

(I can't get the car near a 240 volt socket to use a "proper" charger)

Had one of these a few years back and it did the job fine. Have since moved onto a C TEK but still carry the solar one round if leaving the car away from home. Worth a punt for that price so long as ciggy lighter is connected direct to the battery.

I've got one currently keeping my MX-5 battery ticking over. It's not allowed in the garage until GRR is fully built. The solar trickle seems more than adequate to balance out the alarm leakage.

Might be worth checking your cigerette lighter socket has a permanent connection to the battery, ie live with the ignition off as otherwise the power from the solar panel wont go anywhere!

In my Audi the socket is perm live, in SWMBO's Bmw, the sockets only live with the ignition on.

I fitted one of those solar chargers to my Caterham as have no power in my garage. It should do the job if it wasn't for all this snow laying on the roof at present
