too much rubbing

Just got a 1700 BDR HPC. The steering column rubs on one of the 90 degree unions on the 5 Port oil pump. Can the rack be shimmed up to allow clearance of the pump or will this affect the geometry of the steering? Also this thing has HPC rims and I think it should have 13" KN's would this also affect the set up as it feels a bit unhappy or is this just the difference between live axles(ahh-nostalgia)and early 90's De-Dion?

Nigel,

If you slacken the steering rack off, you should be able to rotate it enough to move the column from where its rubbing. Take care not to introduce it to another piece of kit in the engine bay though.

Hi,

My BDR had the same problem, and although you can twist the rack to increase clearance, on my car the rack was about 8mm too low for optimum bump steer setting, so the actual fix (for both problems) was to raise the rack!

Cheers
