Flyingfish
I am off to Oulton Park for a track day this friday 😬 and what with the weather forcasters predicting heavy cats and dogs, was wondering which wheels to put on  Do I go for the 15" R888's or the 13" CR500's. Which will offer up more grip in the wet? Silver 1.8VVC Roadsport CA53 RAM
mav
CR500's for sure.
Area Representative Nick Chan Posted November 18, 2009 Area Representative Share Posted November 18, 2009 Definitely the CR500's as Mav says. I might pop in to watch as I'm off that day but don't think I'll bring the seven!

millsn
Tip 1, take it easy Tip 2, ignore all those who aren't taking it easy Tip 3, if the downpour gets bad, get off the track Tip 4, make sure your tyres are the same (treadwise) front to back (painful experience)

craigyb
I attended this crash while marshalling at Oulton a few years ago. I was at the river formally known as clay hill,  be careful 😬 Cheers Craig
Flyingfish
Think I might stay at home and watch Days of Thunder instead 😳 Looked like a nasty accident and one I'll try not to imitate. Silver 1.8VVC Roadsport CA53 RAM
mattobrien
It did look like one of the cars was on slicks
Matthew Willoughby
They were all on slicks. I was stood there watching when it started to pour down. I ran for the car and missed all the action.
craigyb
Scary thing for us marshalls, was watching when Steve (marshall) got hit by the car. If you look carefully, before and after, you can see that it ripped his jacket. Other than a bit of bruising, and some shock, he was fine and back with us a few weeks later. Miracle was that no one got hurt, except some pockets. 2.8 million worth of damage I was told, and so much carbon fibre all over the place.. like 50 pound notes scattered. Had a chat with a driver, and he said he was aquaplaning at 30 mph on those slicks.  Cheers Craig
Roger Ford
Bikes don't work too well there in the wet, either. Here's me looking for a lift back to the paddock from Lodge Corner.

Flyingfish
Pleased to report that the CR500's did the trick  Only a couple of outings across the grass 😳 Silver 1.8VVC Roadsport CA53 RAM
craigyb
Now let me guess.. Coming out of cascades by any chance rh side past lakeside? Or down the avenue after old hall corner? Cheers Craig
Flyingfish
Craig, correct. Coming out of cascades....... Backwards...... Watching the lake coming towards me in the rear view mirror! Then, coming out of knickerbrook....... Backwards. Managed to stay out of the kitty litter and the other furniture though. Silver 1.8VVC Roadsport CA53 RAM
craigyb
Marevelous! Glad you didn't hit anything, and knickerbrook too, there used to be a bank there at one time until a really bad accident. Hope to follow in your tracks one day  Cheers Craig
