I have ventured left field to buy a bangernomics motor....

I wanted to set some priorities for fun (with SWMBO agreement of course *rolleyes*)

So to help out with your guessing:

Had to be different to BMW, Audi, Merc (i.e. no badge snobbery here *tongue* )

Had to be less than £4k (ideally £3k)

Had to have four doors

Had to be a big petrol engine *cool*

Had to have all the toys

Had to be less than 7 years old

Had to be auto

Had to cost over £30k new at least (I love buying in to someone elses depreciation woes 😬 )

Had to have a warranty of at least two years

Had to have a Full Dealer service history

Had to have some oomph (plus 140mph capability on a test track of course...)

Had to have Japanese mechanicals (I love the reliability)

Had to do 30 mpg on a run at least (for the UK - Toulouse cruise several times a year)

Guess what it is 😬?

Voila!! It is a Vel Satis - with the 3.5 litre Nissan 350Z engine 😬

Well played chaps *wavey* - the car is different *rolleyes* and pig ugly like its owner BUT goes like stink, is extremely comfortable and someone else has incurred the £28k depreciation over the past 6 years *tongue*

Despite the 'hype' these things are pretty reliable I feel you can not match the spec for the price (a tad under £4k) with Full Renault SH and only one owner (50K miles....)

Famous last words possibly.....but I think its stonking value ('old' road tax levels and only £300 fully comp).

*cool* *smokin* *cry* *confused* *wink*

The Vel Satis was a fantsatic car, competing with BMW, Audi & Lexus.

The only problem was the badge! Would you pay that sort of money for a Renault? No snob value.

To me the surprising thing is Renault should have known it would fail in the UK. When we were Renault dealers the network sold about 100 Alpine A110 a year. Then they changed the name to Renault. The whole network sold, wait for it, can you believe this..... 3 in the whole year.

So it's not the car that matters when you get above bread & butter prices, it's the badge.

Dave, enjoy it, they are great luxury barges.

ed to ad that the name Vel Satis is a pre war name used by Renault for it's luxury range. I think the previous Vel Satis model was in the early 1930s.

Yip *wink* *rolleyes* *wavey*

Edited to say pulled in the UK only; They continued to sell in other markets around the globe until production of the phase 2 version stopped last month; I have discovered that interpol and the special forces in france and germany use the 3.5 nissan engined version as interceptor units....with 350bhp; I have also discovered the source for the NISMO goodies to get the extra HP *cool*

*arrowup* *arrowup* yes Kev......not too rolly polly *wink* Bloody comfortable though and the best bit is that it has no BMW badge on it *tongue* *wavey*

*arrowup* Looked at the avantime too Myles but TBH the Vel was/is streets ahead in terms of refinement and oomph (although maybe not quite as quirky in the looks department 😬)
