guilleracing
Hi, Ah, that got your attention!!! Well, I have a small budget and am looking for a 'box to completely rebuild so It only needs to be complete. I am looking to aquire a 4 speed type 2 ford gearbox. This is the type with the integral cast in bellhousing. Cheers, Greg. alextangent
Would be interested in why you're doing a rebuild? I have several in my garage in various states of (dis)repair, and I've wondered what it would cost in terms of money & labour to do this... Alex McDonald Loud, louder, loudest... guilleracing
Hi, There is a classic car event on the Island of Jersey that is open to Caterhams to run in a silhouette class. This is the Jersey festival of speed. There are four race meetings held over a long weekend on the island. ( Lotus 7s eligible due to age, Caterhams accepted as they are directly linked to the original seven) I have a crossflow Cateham with the type 2 box. Quaife do a gear kit. To keep in the spirit of the classic event I want to retain a 4 speed box but want to have a more serious go at the event without messing the spec of my car. The type 2 box is lighter than the rs 2000 box and a rebuilt type 2 will not change the under bonnet look of my car. The straight cut gears are £700 for a set. All the bearings etc are available and the cost is very small ( £60 ) or so. Greg.
CaterBram
Do you have any date's for the Jersey event ? I do a number of trips to Jersey for work a year and would enjoy and run accross in the 7 with a few events on the island Newbie Owner of Q469 WET Caterham 1690 Crossflow in Ali except for the red bits.CaterBram on Facebook
guilleracing
Hi, look here http://www.classicandvintagejersey.co.uk/ This weekend is one of the best organised events I have ever participated in. ( And I have been racing since 1985!) Make a date in your diary for August 2010. Greg. PS although I now have a Guernsey registration number, when I got my 7, it had a Q registration. CaterBram
It almost seems that WET must be pretty popular for Caterham's as there's quite a few people around who have had different numbers but the same WET. I'll look at my diary and see if the date's are possible. Next time i'm accross in the Island i'll see if it drops with a meet night and call in. guilleracing
Oh Yeah! This really is one weekends hillclimbing not to miss! I've got my spare 'box now. Well, I got the 'box from Escort Tec ( Ebay.) They were brilliant. The 'box was properly wrapped up and complete, clutch fork etc. Big thumbs up to them. I got it home and immediately stripped it down to see what £30.00 buys these days. I managed to get the gears out and everything layed out on the bench in 18 minutes. "A new Guille Racing record." ( Still have all my old FoMoCo gearbox tools.) Apart from being covered in 30 years of dirt, the internals were like new. Everything is in the parts washer as I write this. Phew! I Will be getting on to Quaiffe to get a gear set next. Boy oh boy I can't believe how tiny the bits are in these 'boxes. Time will tell if the bits will put up with a bit of gentle hillclimbing.
