Nifty Posted October 6, 2009 Share Posted October 6, 2009 I am having a problem with my temperature gauge reading too high. Have changed the sender to eliminate this. I noticed the other day that when I turn on the headlights the temperature jumps up a further 10oC. I also have a problem with the indicators blowing fuses. I suspect the problems are related, a short somewhere, but the water temp sender is in a submarine pipe and therefore has a direct earth to the battery so can't be on the earth side. Anyone got any bright ideas where to start? alextangent Posted October 6, 2009 Share Posted October 6, 2009 I'm a great fan of everything being attributable to either bad earths or an alternator voltage regulator. That's where I'd start; check the earths and then check the voltage across the battery when the engine is running, with and without the lights on. If it rises when the lights are on, I'd bet on the regulator, and it shouldn't read much more than 14V or so. Traced a poor earth on a fan override switch on mine which made water temp jump by up to 10deg. whenever switch turned on (mine happened to be a very old length of cable that was corroded/brittle inside).
