JKJ
Can anyone advise on the correct fitment/location of the Caterham luggage rack, mine came with the car and I'm not to sure how to locate it . Does it fit against the spare wheel, with the lower hooks resting on something,(in my case this would seem to be the number plate!), and fasten with a strap of some sort? Casbar
The luggage rack sits to the rear of the spare wheel. The lugs of the luggage rack sit in freont of the spare wheel. It seems to be a good idea to pad the rack where it sits on the spare wheel bracket. I used some foam. Robert
JKJ
Nope, still won't fit. The lugs on the rack I can see are meant to locate on the spare wheel support frame, but this seems impossible with 16" wheels as there is zero clearance between the wheel, the number plate and the support and the lugs will not fit between them. I guess it's designed for use with the smaller wheels.
Alex Wong1697456877
You do have to remove the wheel and re-fit it on top of the lugs. Does that help? Alex
Simos
And maybe let some air out of the spare, it should be around the 20ish psi mark (forget what for 16") but is usually inflated to 30+ by garages and never reset 'cos you never put it on the car. Alex Wong1697456877
I've had to delfate the spare and reinflate it when fitted before. Then I jumped on the spare carrier a few times to bend it a bit and it's been ok since! Not to be recommended though.smile.gif Alex Alex Wong alex.wong@lotus7club.co.uk www.alexwong.net Home : 44-(0)121-440 6972 Fax : 44-(0)121-440 4601
JKJ
End of confusion, it looks like when the rack was assembled it was constructed the wrong way around. The lugs were pointing towards the back of the car. If I reverse the fitting then it should fit as suggested with the wheel sitting on the lugs. Thanks for the info.
