Tranx vs. Quaife

Hi list,

I have been running a Tran-x limited slip for over 30 years. It's been a great product. I am now looking to change my diff to a different rear gear ratio and would like just to setup another diff.

The question is what is the difference between a TranX and Quaife and which would be better for competition.

Thanks,

Indeed - Quaife is a torque biasing diff rather than a limited slip diff.

The ZF is supposedly superior to the TranX though - something to do with the metals used giving a smoother locking action on the ZF (or so they say *wink*). There's also the new Titan LSD, which is supposedly no better than the ZF, but cheaper and more easily obtained.

Concensus is the LSDs are better for competition use - especially when kerb hopping is involved as the torque biasing diff will let a lifted wheel spin-up. An LSD will stop this.

As far as I know, Caterham have always supplied LSDs with their race cars (well, when the cars are allowed trick diffs anyway).
