Pete-B
Hi, Can anyone remind me what grade the Caterham gearbox oil is and is it mineral or synthetic. Thanks for any help. Peter
ric355
On the bottle I have in the garage, bought at the beginning of this year, it says semi-synthetic, made for Caterham by Comma, but the grade isn't given.
Mick Day
70w80 GL4 spec oil. A lot of us use Redline MTL in the 6 speed.
steve hall
If I drain my 6 speed box, how much will it take to refill?
Mick Day
Take out the filler plug, place a suitable container under the drain plug & remove the drain plug. Measure what comes out then you will know how much needs to go back in. For a completely dry fill you may require up to 2 litres. I have never managed this with my 6 speed but others tell me they have. For an oil change you will probably need about 1.25 litres.
andy_h
Be aware, Redline MTL is sold in quarts not litres. I bought 2 bottles of MTL and had at least half a bottle left over (can't rember fully as it was a couple of years ago). Mick Day
1 quart (US) = 0.95 litres. So whether it's a dry fill or a change you'll need 2 bottles.
weeman
I'm about to undertake an oil change myself, but a quick search seems to offer divided opinion as to whether it's possible to refill the gearbox via the top having removed the gearlever. I've looked at the access to the filler plug from under the car but because of heat insulation that has been added to the xmn tunnel it isn't possible. _________________________ Be Lucky!!
