Would the UL2 calliper give better stopping power over the standard front brakes, or is the main advantage reduced unsprung weight? Phil B Posted October 14, 2009 Share Posted October 14, 2009 Hi, I fitted Hi-Spec 4 pots with standard diameter solid discs and M1144 pads to my Zetec powered car back in the spring (so option 1a). I also swapped the old iron hubs for alloy ones. I was using Princess iron 4 pot calipers with green stuff pads and 245mm (vitesse) drilled discs before. Braking feels good, the unsprung weight is down by about 12lbs per wheel due to the combined effect and no evidence of overheating in normal road use, or when I took it round the 'Ring in August. They are a Triumph parts specialist and they have commissioned a lot of bits including alloy hubs. Having done a bit of digging on BC, there seems to be some concerns re. Hi Spec service - have these been resolved - presumably Richard must be happy dealing with them, otherwise he wouldnt be selling them. RiF Posted October 15, 2009 Share Posted October 15, 2009 HiSpec have sold the 4 pot for the 232 / 10 disc. It is not the recommended route but if fellow seveners are happy then I will not argue. I do not have first hand experience and every seven car is different not to mention how it is driven. There have been problems in the past with parts supplied by HiSpec that do not fit. As far as I know there has not been problems with performance of the kit once installed. By being their distributor for Caterham we have been ironing out all the problems. Now every kit comes through us and we double check. We are working closely with HiSpec to solve the last few problems we have on the rear calipers at the moment. The problem HiSpec have had is that they supply loads of different makes and models of cars and cannot specialise in just the Caterham. This is what we are doing. It has not been easy but with the help of a Club member (thanks John ) we have steadily solved the problems. I currently have branded hoses, so if there is an option to not have these (assuming the ends are the same thread size and flare), then I'd be interrested in Option 1a without hoses!
