Converting an under-dash handbrake to tunnel mounted

Has anyone done this conversion? My pre-96 ex-race 7 is going for an SVA in August and the book says that the handbrake must be reached whilst normally seated. With a harness on there's no way you can reach it under the dashboard.

Whilst the alternative is to fit lap/diagonal belts it would be nicer to move the handbrake so it was usable!

I did some research - the tunnel on post 1996 (?) cars was reinforced to allow the fitment of the handbrake there. When I reviewed buying an ex race SLR I decided that since I never use a handbrake, I'd just fit the later styles and forget about the reinforcing - on the basis it'd probably be used once a year at MOT time...
