4 pot brake conversion

I have been told that the 4 pot brake conversion involves the purchase of what are basically old BL (think it was suggested Austin Princess??) callipers with Triumph GT6 discs... Is this correct and if so what mods do I need to make to get said system to work????

I know that every item on the 7 is stolen from some vehicle or other and am keen to upgrade to 4 pots asap!!

Anyone suggest the donor vehicle for discs and callipers if I am incorrect??

I don't think that the Princess calipers fit a Seven as the uprights are wrong. The Caterham offering is totally bespoke from AP. Other companies also do conversions but they are bespoke as well (eg Alcon from James Whiting). S I don't think there is a 'cheap' route to this upgrade.

You have it right. It certainly fits the older cars. My 1990 car had this bargain upgrade on it for about 5 years. The whole upgrade cost GBP 80 including the refresher kits for the Brakes. The calipers also need a slight tweak to convert them from twin flexable feed pipes to singles.(A cunifer pipe is needed to link one side of the caliper to the other) The GT6 or Vitesse discs are definately the right ones (they are the same) , they are slightly wider and thicker than standard Herald based Caterham ones, but the Princess set up was designed for wider ventilated discs anyway so there is loads of room. I think the only Mod that was needed apart from the pipework was a pair if thin washers to centralise the Caliper on the disc. The Caterham upright is based on that of the Herald (it may even be one) so it should be a straight fit. Not so sure about the newer cars without the Trunnions , anyone know ?

The only drawback with the princess calipers is a/ they are heavy. b/ they are now very hard to find in scrappies as everyone knows about this trick and there are several other cars they will fit as well, including Escorts. Alan 'Hairy' Hockham currently runs his Seven with this mod , and reckons its the cheapest most cost effective upgrade he has ever come across.
