Matthew Willoughby
Can anybody give me a rough idea how much it would cost to respray the sideskins from just behind the front wheels to the front of the rear wings. The colour would not be metallic but wouldn't be a standard Caterham colour either. It just needs doing to tidy up some tired paintwork damaged by stonechips and stickers. I'm not after anything too detailed, just a rough ballpark. I've currently budgeted £500 - am I far off? Willie.
I would think you're about spot on, if a bit high. I got a bonnet, nose, scuttle and two wings sprayed for £300 (He was cheapish though), and a whole car is usually about £800ish, so I would like to think your £500 should more than cover it. Matthew Willoughby
Whoops, I made a bit of a mistake - the car is actually metallic and I hadn't realised! The question relates to a car I was thinking of buying (and have now agreed to buy). How much difference will this make to respray costs?
Area Representative bluenose Posted July 30, 2009 Area Representative Share Posted July 30, 2009 Matthew Unfortunately if it is metallic then blending in resprayed areas is difficult(not impossible). Your best bet is to remove the front suspension which is not very difficult and get the side skins sprayed all the way along to the top of the rear wings. When i had my car resprayed I removed the front suspension units as a whole, picture here. Nick Lava Orange Caterham Blackbird
Matthew Willoughby
That wouldn't be the end of the world - I was thinking of getting the wishbones etc powdercoated so they'd have to come off anyway.
