De-dion Rear Disc.......Which Type ?

If buying an Alt.( other than CCars ) rear discs, are they From Triumph spitfire or Ford sierra, or should i get upratted type ? any Ideas, Thanks, Phil

The rear discs are Triumph Spitfire front discs available from Rimmer Brothers at around £30 + p&p. for the pair.

 

I have a spare brand new pair in my garage which you can have for £25 including postage if you wish.

Standard discs, front & back are Triumph Spitfire. Available from CC or any other good motor factor, for about the same amount of money. However it makes sense to support CC because if we don't....................

Are there any "standard" fitment discs which are a larger diameter but still fit?

 

Keen to get a larger diameter disc, but not keen to pay £100+, wondering if larger dia discs from another car fit?

 

Are GT6 discs any bigger?

Standard disks equivelent are Brake Engineering 815811 available from motor factors for about £28 a pair.

I'm thinking more for the front really, and I'd be willing to make a bracket to move the callipers. I think vented discs are unnecessary on the front of a 7, and Hi-Spec's big discs are a bit pricey for my liking...so looking for alternative suggestions.

Yes the Vitesse/GT6 discs will fit on the front only as far as I am aware. A small amount thicker and greater diameter. I fitted them as I upgraded to the Alcon calipers and realised a slightly larger disc would fit better. We had to turn the diameter down on a lathe a tiny amount but they have proved totally reliable and have handled any amount of abuse I have given them despite not being ventilated.

Thanks for that. I had heard they fitted, but wasn't sure.

 

Do you remember what diameter they are?

 

I have a pair of Hi-Spec callipers, but they're for Cortina hubs (Got them for my Locost), but think I'll machine an adaptor and use them with bigger discs. Hi-Spec do some real tastey big discs, but keen to keep to affordable, standard, parts if I can.

Just did a quick google, sorry...should have before asking.

 

Standard Spitfire/Caterham Solid Disc = 229mm

Standard GT6 Solid Disc = 246mm

Hi-Spec Sell:

232mm Solid Disc

260mm Solid Disc

280mm Solid Disc - Not listed as their kit

 

The first two of the HiSpec sizes are in their conversion kits for the Caterham, but the 280mm disc is not listed. Apparantly this does, and has been fitted (RST V8 car), perhaps its just too effective on smaller installs, I don't know.

Willie, If you are changing the rear calipers then its perfectly possible that the GT6 discs can be made to fit although you will need to experiment a little. The basic shape of the GT6 disc is no different to the Herald one though

Changing fronts, not changing rears. I think the rear is a bit overbraked, or the front under (as standard), so want to make the fronts better and leave the standard rears with decent pads.
