Petrolhead
Thinking about replacing the belts in my car and was wondering, before I just go out and but the same from CC (Luke I think) I thought I would ask if there was any other choice I should conciderand why? ----- My site-----
6speedmanual
Yes, consider 6 point. Many benefits previously discussed on BC threads. Peter BRAWNGP green SUPERLIGHT FCITW 2009 😬
Doug
I'm interested to hear opinions on this too. My harnesses will need replacing next year. Petrolhead
I was thinking more the branding as opposed to 4 or 6 point ----- My site-----
ruff seven
I have just got a pair of Willans silverstone 6 point from DT, now these were for ordered for a Caterham, they do not come with any hardware, and the top straps have to be drilled to suit chassis hardware, winds me up a bit. Dickie Normuss
I bought some Willans 6 points direct from Stockbridge Racing. I've been pleased with them and no signs of wear etc. The service was also excellent VX HPC - Loud and proud here Adding power makes you faster on the straights. Area Representative Paul Richards Posted July 16, 2009 Area Representative Share Posted July 16, 2009 I bought Sabelt direct from them - look up website. Why? Much cheape and easier to adjust. My experience of the Caterham harnesses is that they are very stiff and whilst the lap adjusters are the correct way i.e. you pull the end of the belt up, they are a pig to tighten as they are stiff. Also the adjuster is wedged between the seat and the body which makes them difficult to extend. Sabelt were also good to deal with. By the way, I found the washers supplied with the Caterham belts were poor and did not allow the fitting to rotate properly - if you see what I mean. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. Graham Sewell
Ruff, Why bother drilling out the strap mountings? I just did not bother to use the top hat washers and the screws fitted perfectly. Petrolhead
It looks like I am down to choosing between Willans and Sabelt My only concern is, from what I have read, it's harder to tighten the lap belt compared to the Luke as you pull down towards the seat and not up. Can anyone comment Also, it looks like the ecconomy has increated all the DT prices and the the CC luke belts are now the cheapest. One last think, I can't seem to find a web site for Luke, have they stopped trading? ----- My site-----

6speedmanual
Luke can customise the belt design to your requirements. Speak to Richard who is very helpful. Make sure you order forged alloy shoulder strap adjusters. They are vastly better than the pressed steel ones. Petrolhead
I will give him a bell but recon it will be expensive. I have never struggled with the shoulder straps on the std belts like some have ----- My site-----
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted August 17, 2009 Area Representative Share Posted August 17, 2009 One of my concerns with the Sabelt was the fact that the lap straps pulled down. In practice they are OK and in my opinion easier to adjust than the Caterham branded ones. I have found all the Caterham ones very stiff to adjust even when pulling up and also to slacken the lap straps is difficult as the buckle (which needs to be folded over) tends to be fouled by the S type seats. The Sabelt lap straps adjust easily and I tend to adjust tight and then breathe in and click into the buckle. Hope you can understand. 😬 Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. Petrolhead
Had a word with Richard at Luke and he is putting together a price Also spoke to Dave at DT and his advice for road use was to go 3" Shoulder and 2" Lap. His prefered chice is Sabelt but felt that either Sabelt or Willans would be good. He suggested that the alloy adjuster, although very nice if money no object, the std adjuster of both belts were fine ----- My site-----
jeremybu
I recently got Schroth from Fluke which seem good to use. 1.6 SV - GJ02JLO - If there's one thing I've learned, it's that it should have been something else.
jimmyslr
I bought some Schroth for my C7 having used them and been very happy in a couple of Porches. They are not cheapest, but well made, adjust easily and have some good safety features. Fitting was easy. I use 6 point harnesses; you can always ignore the crotch straps, but I tend to use them. h_____
Another for schroth, again from porsches. For caterham speak to Jen Grace at http://www.msar-safety.com/ She races in Grads and has had belts specially made for caterhams. Also a great source of knowledge abuot what you can and cant do. jeremybu
If you can have them made, then I would try to get pull down straps so the buckle is not down the side of the seat. 1.6 SV - GJ02JLO - If there's one thing I've learned, it's that it should have been something else.
