k80rum
A quick oil question: Would Castrol GTX 15w40 High Mileage oil be considered okay for running-in my Duratec, given that it's a mineral oil? Stationary M25 Traveller
Doesn't that sound a bit heavy (to take up the sloppy gaps in older engines) ? The new Ford engines seem to like 5W-30 as their normal beverage ? Edited by - Stationary M25 Traveller on 13 Jul 2009 16:56:
k80rum
How-do My 'normal' oil was in fact going tobe Castrol Edge 0W-30 for the wet-sumped engine (the Comma 5W50 seems to be considered a bit too thick by some engine builders although Minister/CC seem to recommend it) It seems as though most mineral oils are around the 15w-40 or 20w-50 mark though Darren E K80 RUM Website and Emerald maps library Home of the long-term, supercharged Duratec project

Mick Day
Halfords do a 10/40; that's what I used for my K series. Just make sure you warm it up 1st.
k80rum
Cheers Mick. Dave: The engine's using new rings/pistons and bearings. Darren E K80 RUM Website and Emerald maps library Home of the long-term, supercharged Duratec project
I.Mupferit
Peter at Raceline told me to just use a cheapish 10w-40 semi synthetic oil from Halfords with my new Duratec.
k80rum
Thanks Brent Out of curiosity, what oil are you running in yours now? Darren E K80 RUM Website and Emerald maps library Home of the long-term, supercharged Duratec project
dannylt
I used Silkolene XTR10W40 semi syn for running in all my Duratecs on a rolling road which seemed to do the job fine. Then Pro S 5w40 after a track day or two.
I.Mupferit
Actually Darren, I'm not running any oil in my Duratec at the moment as it's a dry sump. Sorry, couldn't resist that. 😬 I sold the car last year but up to that time I was running it with Mobil 1 0w-40.

Phil
Burton Performance sell Millers running in oil 5ltr and it is a 10w/40 mineral I think. Great for 500 miles. After that a good quality 0w/30 fully synthetic or Mobil 0w/40 fully synthetic.
