phill brigstock Posted July 11, 2009 Share Posted July 11, 2009 Hi All I've just finished restoring my 1995 1400 K series Supersport 6 speed ex race car in time for my first Track Day at Oulton Park next Tuesday. AS I reversed it into the garage last night the clutch release bearing failed & I'm desperately trying to get the engine/gearbox out & new bearing installed by Monday 3pm. I live in Oakham (halfway between Peterborough & Leicester) & I'm trying to find out if anyone knows if the bearing is a standard item used in other cars & if so any part numbers & any thoughts on suppliers local to me. Willie. Posted July 11, 2009 Share Posted July 11, 2009 Are you positive its the Clutch Release Bearing (CRB)? They don't usually just fail instantaneously like that. What were the symptoms? Maybe someone can confirm 100%, but I think the CRB is a standard Ford Sierra part. The CRB & release lever certainly look the same as my old Sierra's. Mick Day Posted July 11, 2009 Share Posted July 11, 2009 I have the box my new clutch release bearing came in, as supplied by CC: SKF bearing made in France. It says Ford & Talbot on the box. Part number VKC 2144. I also have the old bearing (only changed as engine out) & that has SKF VKC 2144 on it. So yes AFAICT it is a Ford part & probably from a Sierra. Have you checked the cable? Has it self-adjusted? I am sure you have checked all these things already - good luck though!! It says VKC2144 on the plastic section. I'm just outside Banbury, so not too far if you want to collect. You're welcome to this one and get me a replacement at some point. If I still have it (will check if you are interested) then its yours FOC - as said removed only as a matter of maintenance and should be okay to get you on track next week. I'm based between Ely and Huntingdon. About 12 miles from Arch. BMail me if interested. We have tracked down the bearing now but as a sensible precaution we should change the pressure plate & I'm yet to track one down near me on a Sunday - apparently its from the 1.6 Sierra not 2l.
