HELP - I'm desperate

Hi All

I've just finished restoring my 1995 1400 K series Supersport 6 speed ex race car in time for my first Track Day at Oulton Park next Tuesday. AS I reversed it into the garage last night the clutch release bearing failed & I'm desperately trying to get the engine/gearbox out & new bearing installed by Monday 3pm.

I live in Oakham (halfway between Peterborough & Leicester) & I'm trying to find out if anyone knows if the bearing is a standard item used in other cars & if so any part numbers & any thoughts on suppliers local to me.

The track day is £190 which I won't get back if I don't make it so any help really appreciated.

Are you positive its the Clutch Release Bearing (CRB)? They don't usually just fail instantaneously like that. What were the symptoms?

Maybe someone can confirm 100%, but I think the CRB is a standard Ford Sierra part. The CRB & release lever certainly look the same as my old Sierra's.

Not sure if this helps, but some pics & details here

I have the box my new clutch release bearing came in, as supplied by CC:

SKF bearing made in France.

It says Ford & Talbot on the box.

Part number VKC 2144.

I also have the old bearing (only changed as engine out) & that has SKF VKC 2144 on it.

So yes AFAICT it is a Ford part & probably from a Sierra. You should be able to get one from any good motor factors.

Phil, go to yell.com and enter "Bearing suppliers" and your local town.

this is the result for Peterborough

They will almost certainly have one in stock, you just quote the number etched or engraved on the bearing.

I've got a new one still in the box (Caterham part number AB57U) - is this the one you are after? It says VKC2144 on the plastic section.

I'm just outside Banbury, so not too far if you want to collect. You're welcome to this one and get me a replacement at some point.

I'll text you in a few minutes.

Cheers

Guy

Or you could get these from Burton as a more durable alternative

I think I have a take of sitting in the workshop.

I change cltuch and release bearing every year as part of my routine winter maintenance.

If I still have it (will check if you are interested) then its yours FOC - as said removed only as a matter of maintenance and should be okay to get you on track next week.

I'm based between Ely and Huntingdon. About 12 miles from Arch.

BMail me if interested.

Thanks everyone - what a helpful club!

We have tracked down the bearing now but as a sensible precaution we should change the pressure plate & I'm yet to track one down near me on a Sunday - apparently its from the 1.6 Sierra not 2l.

Thanks again guys

Phill
