John E Posted July 17, 2002 Share Posted July 17, 2002 Cant help with the Ford part number but I would bin the cork idea and get a decent gasket from RK. The cork gasket will harden and they can be a pig to fit as they lack rigidity. The RK item is, I think, a composite card construction. You can also get them from Burton Power, part number FP703A if I'm reading the catalogue correctly. Allan Haighton Posted July 17, 2002 Share Posted July 17, 2002 I usually go to my local motor factor and ask for a rocker cover gasket for a Ford crossflow engine as fitted to a Mark 1 Escort. No problems to date - they always have the right gasket in stock. Quicker than by post. Ford main dealers I've generally found to be poor for obtaining gaskets, because its so long since they saw a crossflow (no fiche/wrong fiche/wrong parts ordered & supplied etc). An old Mini trick that works very well on the Supersprint type alloy covers is to "evo-stick" the gasket to the cover. Then fit the cover and gasket complete to the engine and tighten as normal. Big Brother Posted July 17, 2002 Share Posted July 17, 2002 Yes..Hermatite is OK but evostick will hold the gasket in position while the rocker cover is positioned. Well, it always worked on my Mini.
