Hi Andy

Not to many parts required-

4 pin relay

Switch and possible warning light

Wire and in line fuse holder-make sure correct amp wire is used

Elec connectors and crimpers

Relay will need- 12v supply from battery and in line fuse

Supply from ign switch

Earth- i always solder earth connoctions as can be source of corrosion over time

Feed to original supply to fan

Sorry pressed wrong button so as continued-

Supply to switch and then to warning light - you can use switch to supply relay with power- warning light needs to be earthed as well

Bit confused

Thankyou for the help but I am a total numpty with this sort of thing.

I take a wire from the power on the ign, via a relay and in line fuse to the fan

Same with Earth. Wont this make the fan come on as soon as i turn on ign?

Where does the switch go?

Sorry, but i must have misunderstood something.

I'm reaonably confident that .. ..

On the relay you have 4 terminals.

85 and 86 energise the coil which pulls in the "switch" in the relay - so .. ..

Wire from ignition to switch.

Wire from switch to terminal 85 on the relay (relay should be sited near to the fan so that low current flow is in the long wire, high current flow is via a small lenth of wire - hence less voltage drop, generally speaking).

(OPTIONAL - wire from terminal switch output terminal (the one that you have connected to terminal 85) to indicator light, thence to earth (this to show if the fan switch is on) - though if you are using the "heater fan" switch this is built in)

Terminal 86 - to a good earth

Terminal 30 on the relay takes the BIG power supply from the battery or spliced in from the normal fan feed wire. This needs to be fused if it isn't already.

Terminal 87 goes to the fan (along with the wire that comes from the rad switch)

I think that about covers it

(and could have saved sooooooo much typing)

Saved me going off and finding the link on my site though *thumbup*

Must get search working again - the workaround is to click the 'What's on this site' link and hope that the captions are meaningful. Sorry! *redface*
